Bhutanese rally behind GMC Nation Building Bond, exceeding Nu. 2 billion target ahead of schedule; deadline extended by three days.(Thimphu, Bhutan, 31 May 2025)

In an extraordinary show of unity and patriotism, Bhutanese citizens have rallied behind the Gelephu Mindfulness City Nation Building Bond (GNBB), surpassing the Nu. 2 billion target ahead of the original deadline. The bond offering, announced earlier this month by the Gelephu Investment and Development Corporation (GIDC), has seen overwhelming interest and enthusiastic participation from the public.

Launched as a once-in-a-generation opportunity for Bhutanese citizens to invest in the nation's future, the GNBB has resonated deeply with the public—not merely as a financial instrument, but as a powerful expression of service and shared purpose.

"This response is more than we could have ever imagined," said Ujjwal Dahal, Interim CEO of GIDC. "It affirms what we have always known—that the Bhutanese people are ready and willing to help build a future defined by values, vision, and national pride."

The GNBB proceeds will support the development of the Gelephu International Airport—an emblem of Bhutan's aspirations to become a gateway between South Asia and the world. As Bhutan's first international airport in the south, it will anchor economic growth and open pathways for global connectivity, tourism, and trade.

With the initial target now exceeded, and in response to multiple requests for an extension, GIDC is pleased to announce that the bond subscription window will remain open for three additional days, until 3 June 2025, to accommodate those who still wish to participate.

"This is a story of belonging and belief," said Dahal. "Every bond subscribed is a vote of confidence—not only in GMC and the airport, but in Bhutan&apso;s ability to chart its own mindful, inclusive path to prosperity."

The GNBB offers a 10% annual coupon rate for a 10-year term, and is exempt from personal income tax. It is open to Bhutanese citizens residing in Bhutan, with a minimum subscription of 10 units at a face value of Nu. 1,000 per unit. Bonds will be listed on the Royal Securities Exchange of Bhutan Limited (RSEBL) and tradable in the secondary market after a five-year lock-in period. Interested subscribers may apply online via the RSEBL portal at https://rsebl.org.bt/bond or through any of the licensed brokers.

For those still looking to take part, this extension offers a final opportunity to be part of a historic collective act—one that will shape the future of Bhutan for generations to come.
